Rugby Tours To Ottawa

Rugby Tours to Ottawa reads like an appealing dating profile.  Dynamic, gregarious, bilingual, likes kids and long walks.

In person, the attractive capital fits the bill.

Canada’s gargantuan Gothic Parliament buildings regally anchor the downtown core, an inspiring jumble of pulsing districts around the Rideau Canal.

A few days’ worth of world-class museums are architecturally inspiring homes to a variety of intriguing collections.

Parks, gardens and wide-open public spaces pay an accessible and year-round homage to all four seasons.  Average temperatures are well below 0°C from December to March.

Locals celebrate the city’s longest-seeming season with a bunch of outdoor pursuits.  Many skate to work or school on the frozen canal, while the Winterlude festival sees fantastical ice sculptures.

As spring clicks to summer, auspicious tulips cheer the downtown, followed by vibrant fall leaves that line the streets.

Dow’s Lake

Dow’s Lake in Ottawa is a small man-made lake on the Rideau Canal, situated north of Hog’s Back Falls.

In May, the surrounding park displays tulips that are planted for the annual Canadian Tulip Festival.

Over 50 varieties and approximately 300,000 tulips bloom each May along the Rideau Canal.

During the winter Dow’s Lake freezes and becomes part of the world’s longest skating rink for the Winterlude festival in February.  Such events are held on the ice as the ‘bed races’ and ‘waiter races’.

At the north end of the lake a pavilion is situated over the water with three restaurants overlooking the water.

Other services of the pavilion include canoe and paddle boat rentals, boat mooring and an indoor change area for skating.

An Indigenous Experience

Indigenous Experiences is situated on the grounds of the Canadian Museum of History.

It is located on the shores of the Ottawa River within the traditional territory of the Algonquin people.

Explore guided tours of their living history display and museum exhibits that explore Canada’s indigenous legacy.

Watch Pow Wow dance performances by indigenous dancers from around the country, participate in interactive craft, music and dance workshops.

Listen and learn the indigenous storytelling and songs.

Finally paddle down the Ottawa River in a voyageur canoe, this was selected as one of Destination Canada’s signature experiences.

From the sweep of the river, the Ottawa looks as majestic as when Champlain viewed it four centuries ago.

This trip has everything, fun, education and just enough excitement to be thrilled at the end of the run.

Whitewater Rafting - Rugby Tours To Ottawa, Irish Rugby Tours

White Water Rafting

Starting at Britannia, you practice with the guide in the flat water on the way downstream to the rapids.

The trip starts off with a bang, the Deschenes Rapids.  Lucky for you, the guide can choose the level of difficulty by moving right or left at the top of the rapid.

Looking back upstream you can savour the experience and size of the rapid you just challenged.

It’s now time to relax a little as your guide keeps the raft in the current as you float along learning about the river.

You can start to see Parliament Hill in the distance, it seems to rise magically as you paddle along.

Also include a complimentary shuttle back to Britannia Beach after your raft trip.

Ottawa City Rafting will look after you from start to finish.

Notre Dame Basilica

The Basilica is the oldest and largest church in Ottawa and the seat of the city’s Roman Catholic Archbishop.

Its twin spires and gilded Madonna are easily identifiable from nearby Parliament Hill and the surrounding area.

Renovated and restored in the late 1990s, services are held in both French and English.

Steeples are covered with tin, which is typical for French-Canadian churches, and house a peal of bells.

Exterior is fairly reserved, but the interior is far more ornate, designed by Georges Buillon.

Inside, the church is brightly painted and decorated with carved features, exquisite stained-glass windows and hundreds of statues.

Louis-Philippe Hébert completed thirty large wooden sculptures in the choir.

At the end of the choir, the Holy Family is completed with saints John the Baptist and Patrick.

As you know they are the patron saints of France and Ireland.
